History in the Making

For the first time in 8 years, I’m proud of America. We’ve been watching the election coverage as often as possible during the school day, far removed from the events. But everything that happens affects all American citizens, even abroad! Let’s just say there will be a massive celebration tonight. Champagne, anyone?

I would love to say I’m always proud to be an American, but at some points during the last 8 years it’s been hard. I’ve been voting since I was able and that’s the best I can do. I cherish our freedoms but I know we could do so much more with them. That’s why I’m excited for Obama; he inspires so many people in a way that hasn’t been seen in an American leader in a good long time.

Having lived the life of a military spouse………I’ve ALWAYS been proud of my country. Maybe not the government, but you have to separate the two. Living overseas, you get a sense of people who do not like the US, but when you get immersed in the culture, you represent the PEOPLE and not the government of the US and sometimes you have a positive affect on other people to show that the US citizens don’t always agree with the actions of the government. Too many people are putting too much hope in one person and that will be tested very quickly. I pray daily for an improvement to our situation, but know the US is in for some trying times ahead. Too many promises were made that will not be fulfilled – but that’s politics.

As always, I keep you in my prayers for your continued safety overseas and that you enjoy what you are doing every day!
